Adequate housing is a human right, and stability is something that every human strives to attain in their lifetime. However, the disproportionate hardships that women and gender-nonconforming people experience make homeownership status difficult to achieve.

From the gender pay gap and its impact on credit profiles, to uneven childcare responsibilities that consume time and financial resources, to higher rates of mortgage denials despite superior payment performance, the hurdles keeping women from homeownership are high.

This summer, my team at OKW Architects and I are raising funds toward this cause in preparation for our 780-person-strong build in October! Together, we will help women and gender non-conforming people become homeowners with Habitat Chicago, a nonprofit committed to championing healthy neighborhoods by investing in resident priorities, building quality homes, and supporting homeownership.
