For the second year, Splunk is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity Chicago's Women Build to help female homebuyers overcome the gendered barriers to homeownership by raising walls, hammering nails, and building hope!

The life-changing benefits of affordable homeownership are immense: improved school performance, decreased crime, improved financial outcomes, and enhanced health and well-being of children and adults. But due to gendered barriers like the pay gap and its impact on credit access, and uneven child care responsibilities that limit time and financial resources, it is far more difficult for a woman to own a home than a similarly situated man. Despite this fact, do you know what is truly amazing? Single women are currently outpacing single men when it comes to homeownership, both here in Chicago and across the country.

Alongside 400 determined women, we will raise $275,000+ to help build affordable homes that will be owned by women. Then, we're hitting the Habitat build site on October 10th to help construct the homes, right alongside the future homeowners: Lybia & Shaunavera!

Lybia is a compassionate special education aide who has dedicated her life to raising her three sons. Now that her sons are grown and she is a proud grandmother, Lybia is looking forward to the new challenge of learning to build and care for her new home, and having something truly for herself...

Shaunavera is a dedicated Library Resource Sharing Assistant and mother. Working hard comes naturally to her, and her dynamic enthusiasm, cheerful sense of humor, and work ethic will undoubtedly propel her through this new journey. She looks forward to meeting new people who believe in her dreams…
