WOMEN BUILD 101Women Build seeks to bring women together to help female homebuyers overcome the gendered barriers to homeownership. As a community of 400+ women strong, we will accomplish two incredible feats:
>> Raise $275,000 to make homeownership a reality for women purchasing affordable homes with Habitat Chicago
>> Advance construction of these homes, building right alongside the future homeowners from October 8th - 12th, 2019
THE BASICS
WHAT: A five-day home-building event, bringing together 400+ women to celebrate our strengths, have a blast, and build a stronger future for our fellow women through safe and affordable homeownership
WHEN: Tuesday, October 8th - Saturday, October 12th, 2019; 7:30am - 3:00pm daily
WHERE: The Habitat Chicago build sites in the West Pullman neighborhood
HOW WOMEN BUILD WORKS
Each Women Builder commits to building for one full day of the event (no construction experience necessary!) and raising at least $375, earning prizes as she goes. There are two ways women can participate:
>> As a Team Leader
Women Build is a Team event! Over thirty determined women commit to volunteer as Team Leaders. Each Team Leader:
>> Attends the Team Leader Kickoff on Thursday, June 13th
>> Commits to fundraising at least $375 and building one day of the event
>> Recruits 11 women to join her team to fulfill these same building and fundraising commitments (each team has a $6,000 total minimum goal)
>> Motivates her team members and ensures they have a whole lot of fun every step of the way
>> Coordinates with her team to get everyone registered and ready to build
>> As an Individual Builder
If you are interested in coming out solo (or with a friend or two), then this role is perfect for you. Each Individual Builder:
>> Joins a team with open spots (we will get you matched up with a team, dependent upon availability)
>> Commits to fundraising at least $375 and building one day of the event
WHAT TO EXPECT
Whether you participate as a Team Leader or an Individual Builder, you are guaranteed a rewarding experience, pressing for progress alongside hundreds of like-minded women.
The volunteer day is hard work - we won't lie about that! But experience tells us there is no better feeling than walking off the construction site at the end of the day, looking back at the home you just helped build with your own two hands.
