Homeownership is one of the most dynamic tools a person can use to build a strong and stable future. However, it is a tool that far too many women are unjustly denied access. From the gender pay gap and its impact on credit profiles, to uneven child care responsibilities, to higher rates of mortgage denials despite superior payment performance, the barriers keeping women from homeownership are massive.
Since moving to the Windy City, I have been inspired by Habitat Chicago, a nonprofit committed to building a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Alongside 400 determined women, we will raise $275,000+ to help build affordable homes that will be owned by women. Then, we're hitting the Habitat build site on October 10th to help construct the homes for two inspiring future homeowners.
