Women face many barriers to homeownership; the gender pay gap and its impact on credit profiles, uneven child care responsibilities that consume time and financial resources, higher rates of mortgage denials despite superior payment performance. These issues have been exacerbated as the unemployment crisis continues to disproportionately impact women.

This October, I'm joining Women Build with a group of awesome ladies (Team Joan Desert) to work on a home in West Pullman. Together, we will help our fellow women become homeowners with Habitat Chicago, a nonprofit committed to building a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
