It’s that time of year! On October 15th, I will be participating alongside my female coworkers in Habitat for Humanity’s Chicago Women Build event for the sixth year in a row.
The actual build day will look a little different this year, with the blitz spread out over the entire month instead of condensed into a single week, but Habitat has found a way to continue with this meaningful work despite the turbulent times! Many of you know what this event is all about since you’ve generously supported it with me over the years, but in case you need a refresher . . .
Over the course of the Chicago Women Build event this October, over 450 women will come together to help fund and build the home of a deserving family. Each event participant raises over $375 toward the cost of the home, and donates one day of labor towards the construction process. Simultaneously, the receiving family partners with Habitat for Humanity by completing 350 sweat equity hours, attending homeowner education classes, and saving up for a down payment. Once the home is built, the family is able to purchase it from Habitat with a minimal down payment and an affordable 0% interest mortgage, effectively boosting them out of the rent cycle. The process can truly change a life!
This year, the notion of a comfortable and safe home has taken on new meaning for all of us. Are you able to help me make a decent home a reality for Myeasha and the other women-led families? You can do so by making a donation on this page.
Every little bit counts! :) Thanks ahead of time for your support!
