Why it matters

The need for affordable housing doesn't stop when the temperature drops and neither do we. Habitat Chicago builds year-round because we are working to build a city where everyone has a decent place to live - and that's a full-time vision.

One in 10 Chicagoans are currently in need of decent, affordable housing. In order to afford an average two bedroom apartment in Chicago, a person earning minimum wage has to work 102 hours per week just to pay rent.

When winter hits, that number only goes up; upwards of 290,000 people in our own backyard are being forced to make financial sacrifices in order to pay inflated heating bills due to poor quality housing and outdated, inefficient heating systems.

That's why this winter we are bringing our steadfast supporters together to ensure a Habitat partner family never has to make these trade-offs again by:

1. Volunteering as much as you can on our West Pullman construction site now - March 31st.

2. Giving it your all to raise $20,000 - the funds needed to cover an HVAC system, siding, and insulation for one of our family's homes.

The bottom line: we cannot do this work without you. Come bring the heat with us this winter and help a Chicago family in need of safe, stable, affordable housing.
