Scott and I are getting married and we can think of no better way to share the love and happiness than through donations to Habitat for Humanity Chicago.
I have been volunteering with Habitat for the past 7 years. I started at Loyola with the Habitat Campus Chapter as president. I wanted to continue this work after graduation and went through the training to become a Crew Lead to help lead volunteers during build days. I am now also apart of the Habitat Associate Board where we are raising funds for the Habitat Homebuyer Program.
Since meeting Scott, I have shared my love for Habitat and brought him along to several build days together. Teaching him how to install flooring on our first build together was our first lesson in marriage: two heads are not better than one in all things. Our second build together we had learned our lesson, I would be on the ground cutting the sheeting for the roof and he would be up on the trusses installing the pieces. Team work at its finest!
I cannot look past the fact that a huge part of my success in school, work and relationships is never having to worry about where I was going to put my head at night or if I was going to miss a rent payment. This is not the case for everyone, one in ten Chicagoans currently live in inadequate housing. We're making a difference by helping to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity Chicago, a local organization committed to building a city where every resident lives in a healthy home in a vibrant neighborhood.
