Me and a team of other G2 Ladies will be rolling up our sleeves the weekend of October 11th to build a family’s matriarch a home of her own. In my family, my Nani’s house (German word for Grannie) was refuge. At her house I got to be as creative as I wanted to be. I got to drink soda. I got to play with her animals. I got to learn how to cook and tell her things I couldn’t tell my mom and dad about kids at school and how I was feeling. When my aunt experienced heartache from losing her third child halfway into her pregnancy, she called my mom to watch her two kids and immediately went to my Nani’s house to grieve in peace before she could face her husband and tell him the news. I know that my family isn’t so different as so many others, where Grandma and Mom’s house is and will always be the safe place we all need to resist the pressures of the outside world.
