Support Judy Thornber in Women Build

Judy Thornber

Homeownership is one of the most dynamic tools a person can use to build a strong and stable future. However, it is a tool that far too many women are unjustly denied access. From the gender pay gap and its impact on credit profiles, to uneven child care responsibilities that consume time and financial resources, to higher rates of mortgage denials despite superior payment performance, the barriers keeping women from homeownership are massive.

I'm grabbing my hammer, strapping on my tool belt, and joining Habitat Chicago's Women Build alongside 400 other powerhouse women to knock these barriers down. Together, we will help our fellow women become homeowners with Habitat Chicago, a nonprofit committed to building a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

You can make a difference. Help me reach my fundraising goal so we can change the lives of these women forever and prove that there's nothing a group of committed women can't do. I appreciate any support you can give - big, small, or somewhere in between.

Hi Judy, This is a wonderful project and as a fellow Salon member who is inactive right now, I thank you for telling us about it and giving us this opportunity. My husband and friends have helped on many builds and found them so rewarding.

Wonderful, Judy! I am all in favor of the Habitat for Humanity joining women to assist in the construction of homes for low income families. I hope the families will also be on site working alongside you. I also was on site building for 2 different homes - one in San Diego and one in Mexico. Can't say I was too good at pounding nails into drywall, but others were and it was a good experience just being there on site! Suzanne Morgan
