The purpose of Women Build is to bring women together to celebrate and support the female Habitat homebuyers who have overcome the institutional barriersthat unevenly prevent women from accessing the benefits of homeownership.
As a community of 300 women strong, we will accomplish two incredible feats:
1. Raise $175,000 to make homeownership a reality for a Habitat Chicago woman homebuyer.
2. Advance construction of several Habitat homes that will be women-owned, building right alongside the future homeowners from October 9th - 13th.
The Basics
What: A five-day home-building event, bringing together 300 women to celebrate our strengths, have a blast, and build a stronger future for our fellow women through homeownership.
When: Tuesday, October 9th - Saturday, October 13th, 2018; 7:30am - 3:00pm daily
Each Women Builder commits to building for one full day of the event (no construction experience necessary!) and raising at least $350 to participate, earning prizes as she goes.
There are two ways women can participate:
1. As a Team Leader
Women Build is a Team event! Thirty determined women commit to volunteer as Team Leaders. Each Team Leader:
•Attends the Team Leader Kickoff on Tuesday, June 12th.
•Commits to fundraising at least $350 and building one day of the event
•Recruits 11 women to join her team to fulfill these same building and fundraising commitments
•Motivates her team members and ensures they have a whole lot of fun every step of the way
•Coordinates with her team to get everyone registered and ready to build
2. As an Individual Builder
If you are interested in coming out solo (or with a friend or two), then this role is perfect for you. Each Individual Builder:
•Joins a team with open spots (we will get you matched up with a Team on your preferred date, dependent upon availability)
•Commits to fundraising at least $350 and building one day of the event
What to Expect
Whether you participate as a Team Leader or Individual Builder, you are guaranteed a rewarding experience, pressing for progress alongside hundreds of like-minded women.
The volunteer day is hard work - we won't lie about that! But experience tells us there is no better feeling than walking off the construction site at the end of the day, looking back at the permanent home and strong future you just built with your own two hands (and the help of some some power tools).
