As engineers and designers at Stantec, we spend our careers helping shape the built environment. Women Build gives us the opportunity to step out from behind our desks, pick up our hammers, and work side by side to build something that directly impacts our community.

We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to experience the stability and security that comes with homeownership. Owning a home can improve financial stability, create opportunities to build generational wealth, and provide a strong foundation for healthier families and better futures for children. Yet women continue to face barriers like the gender pay gap, unequal caregiving responsibilities, and challenges accessing credit. For Black women, those barriers are compounded by generations of discriminatory housing policies and the persistent racial wealth gap. Here in Chicago, where the homeownership gap between Black and white households remains one of the largest in the country, expanding access to affordable homeownership is one important way to build stronger, more equitable communities.

That's why we're proud to support Habitat for Humanity Chicago. Future homeowners don't receive a free house—they complete financial and homeownership education, partner with Habitat throughout the building process, and purchase their homes with affordable mortgages, creating a path to long-term stability and success.
