Habitat for Humanity is near to my heart, and I'm proudly building for this important cause for the fourth consecutive year. The financial and emotional stability that come from home ownership have many benefits for families, including better health, wealth generation, improved student / employee outcomes, and more. The impact of our support is tremendous since the initial homebuyer can bequeath these benefits to their children, uplifting future generations. I support Habitat for Humanity because it provides a path to affordable homeownership for people who might not otherwise have one. Not only does the organization build homes, it also hosts Homebuyer University, which provides tools and resources for first time homebuyers. They offer an array of learning opportunities such as Mortgages and Deeds, Property Taxes, Community Engagement, and Home Maintenance. They also host a Home Care Workshop Series for topics such as home weatherization and plumbing basics. Additionally, Habitat for Humanity leads the Neighborhood Grants Initiative, which provides small grants to resident-led projects that have social, physical and economic benefits for neighborhoods. They also provide energy efficiency training to help homeowners maximize their comfort while reducing energy costs devoted to heating and cooling.
Women Build specifically aims to support women led households.
Everyone deserves a decent place to live.
Homeownership is one of the most dynamic tools a person can use to build a strong and stable future. However, it is a tool that far too many women are unjustly denied access. From the gender pay gap and its impact on credit profiles, to uneven childcare responsibilities that consume time and financial resources, to higher rates of mortgage denials despite superior payment performance, the hurdles keeping women from homeownership are high.
This October, I'm grabbing my hammer, strapping on my tool belt, and joining Habitat Chicago's Women Build alongside hundreds of determined women to knock these barriers down. Together, we will help our fellow women become homeowners with Habitat Chicago, a nonprofit committed to championing healthy neighborhoods by investing in resident priorities, building quality homes, and supporting homeownership.
You can make a difference by helping me reach my fundraising goal and prove that there's nothing a group of committed women can't do.
Change happens one person at a time. I appreciate any support you can give - big, small, or somewhere in between.
