As a Habitat for Humanity Chicago board member and volunteer, I have met countless women over the years whose lives have been completely changed by our work. They are women who have gained financial literacy through our Homebuyer University program, who have conquered their fears of heights and power tools to build homes, and who have built confidence through fundraising to support our mission to ensure that everyone has a safe place to call home.
As a relatively new homeowner who grew up in an apartment, I personally appreciate the many ways that homeownership can create generational wealth, familial stability, and serve as an anchor to a community. I also have learned about the disgusting history of illegal and unethical policies that have prevented women and people of color from achieving “the American Dream." With today's record high home prices and interest rates, we must do everything possible to increase affordable housing opportunities.
That is why I am proud to support Women Build. I hope that you will join me in contributing to my campaign. Every dollar helps someone in need get closer to becoming a homeowner.
