At Callan Consulting Engineers, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when women are given the opportunity to lead and build. I mentor younger women who are working hard to carve out space in a field that hasn’t always made room for them. The same barriers show up in housing, where too many single women are still denied access to homeownership, despite their ability to succeed.

That’s why this October, I’m stepping onto a different kind of job site and this time as the construction crew. I’ll be part of Habitat Chicago’s Women Build, where I (along with a team made up entirely of women) will construct a home for a single woman in our city. It’s women supporting women, building not only walls and roofs, but the foundation for stability and independence.
