Stable housing has been recognized as a major social determinant of health and wellbeing. Of the approximately 58,000 homeless individuals and families in Chicago, only about half are accommodated by shelters. While shelters are helpful to the homeless community, the most effective way to bring a family out of homelessness permanently is to assist in homeownership. Ownership brings empowerment, equity, stability, and decreased stress to those who are struggling. This October, I will be joining OKWomen in Chicago Habitat for Humanity's Women Build day to construct a home in south Chicago. Donations will go directly to the home construction and I appreciate all donations, no matter the size! Thank you for supporting our efforts to bring stable housing to those who need it most!
