Last year, Team Hammer Time team convened in Chicago’s Pullman neighborhood on a sunny and crisp fall morning to build houses alongside many of the women who would soon own and inhabit them. It was a great day for Team HT, but a life-changing moment for the new homeowners.
Recently, we were again reminded about how important female representation is in all aspects of our lives. We know that empowering women is one way to protect and advance our families, children, careers, and communities (everything, really). Homeownership is a tangible way to empower women to have agency over what our lives can look like.
Hammer Time is taking to the hammers (and nails and hardhats…) again this year and joining Habitat for Humanity Chicago’s Women Build to knock down some of these barriers. Alongside 550 incredible women, we will raise $475,000 to help build new Habitat homes that will be purchased by women with affordable mortgages.
