It should go without saying: every single person deserves a safe and decent place to live. But that's not always the case, especially for women facing unequal wages and time-consuming care giving responsibilities. That's why I'm getting my hands dirty and taking a stand at Women Build 2017 - my fifth year of proudly supporting the build efforts in the West Pullman district of Chicago.
As I lead teams of women during this five day event, I will not only be improving the lives of a family (the soon-to-be homeowners) but will also be training and empowering female volunteers in the art of philanthropic construction. You can support me and an amazing family this year as I work with over 300 other Chicago women to come together as a community to fund and begin building a home.
You can make a difference - help me reach my goal so we can completely fund this home and prove that together, we can do more. I appreciate any support you can give!
Best – Suzanne
P.S.: Did you know…
Habitat for Humanity helps individuals seeking safe and affordable housing by:
• Providing an interest-free mortgage for the home (yes, the homeowner pays a mortgage) • Requiring the homeowner to invest sweat-equity by completing 250-250 volunteer hours • Provides free homeowner university classes for the homeowner to support growth & independence (how to budget, how to take care of a home, etc.)
Habitat for Humanity helps Women Build volunteers by:
• Providing a safe, non-judgmental and very supportive environment to develop new skills and confidence by eliminating barriers that often prohibit women from learning these skills • Empowers women to safely move beyond their comfort zone to hone their construction skills and learn to support and encourage other women in this journey • Empowering women to build stronger economies, achieve stretch goals and improve the quality of life for women, families and communities. • Promotes advocacy and education to tradeswomen/hobbyists, and walk away with a “toolbox” that can help them push for more gender equality in any profession.
