Women are more likely to experience challenges to homeownership due to income disparities, unequal caregiving responsibilities, and higher rates of mortgage denials. Due to historical racist housing policies, women of color have an especially harder time becoming homeowners.  Due to historical racist housing policies and the stark wealth gap between Black and White Americans, Black women have an especially harder time becoming homeowners.
 
This October, I'm grabbing my hammer, strapping on my tool belt, and joining Habitat Chicago's Women Build alongside hundreds of determined women to knock these barriers down. Together, we will help our fellow women become homeowners with Habitat Chicago, a nonprofit committed to championing healthy neighborhoods by investing in resident priorities, building quality homes, and supporting homeownership.
