For several years in the mid 2000's, I did volunteer work as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. In this intense role, I saw firsthand how hard it is for women to change their circumstances while working full time, raising small children, and doing it all with little to no support. That experience stayed with me, and what I absolutely know to be true is that stable housing isn't just a roof overhead, it's the foundation everything else gets built on: routine, safety, a place for kids to grow.  

This October, I'm grabbing my hammer, strapping on my tool belt, and joining Habitat Chicago's Women Build alongside hundreds of determined women to support other women in getting traction toward stability. Together, we will help our fellow women become homeowners with Habitat Chicago, a nonprofit committed to championing healthy neighborhoods by investing in resident priorities, building quality homes, and supporting homeownership.
