On October 14th, my female coworkers and I will participate for the 7th year in a row in Habitat for Humanity Chicago's annual Women Build!
I will be working alongside 500+ strong and inspiring women to help more women in our community achieve the strength and stability of homeownership by funding and building new, affordable homes. We're also seeking to raise awareness of the gendered barriers women unevenly face in becoming homeowners. Each event participant raises over $400 toward the cost of the home, and donates one day of labor towards the construction process. Simultaneously, the receiving family partners with Habitat for Humanity by completing 350 sweat equity hours, attending homeowner education classes, and saving up for a down payment. Once the home is built, the family is able to purchase it from Habitat with a minimal down payment and an affordable 0% interest mortgage, effectively boosting them out of the rent cycle. The process can truly change a life!
If you are interested in supporting the event, you can do so by making a donation on this personal fundraising page.
Every little bit helps. Thanks in advance for your generosity!
