I am so excited to be back with Women Build for my second year, this time as a Team Leader!
I first participated in Women Build in October of 2020. Even as the COVID-19 pandemic approached its zenith, the volunteers and staff of Women Build refused to back down from their commitment to empowering women with homeownership. Our build day last year was safe, fun, and made us all feel a little less powerless, even in the face of tragedy and hardship.
The best part of last year’s event was hearing from the homeowners. Sometimes when you volunteer, you wonder if you’re really making a difference. With Women Build, we got the opportunity to see and hear from the real women whose lives we were changing for the better, women who achieved the safety and security of homeownership not just for themselves, but for their daughters, sisters, granddaughters, mothers, and all the generations of women surrounding them. By participating in Women Build, we helped these women build a legacy that will outlive and outreach us all.
Women Build creates community from every angle, from the Habitat block in West Pullman where homeowners will live as neighbors and friends, to the teams of volunteers who arrive as acquaintances and leave as Wonder Women in arms. When women band together, we are absolutely unstoppable!
This year, I’ll be putting my hardhat back on in West Pullman on October 14th, 2021. I hope you’ll support me and Team OneHines in our efforts to create safe, happy, women-owned homes!
